Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and the topical form is a significant antiaging ingredient as it limits the damage caused by UV induced free radicals. Vitamin C is depleted by sun exposure. It is not in itself a sunblock and should not replace the use of a good broad spectrum sunblock. It does however decrease the amount of erythema and sunburn after sun exposure
Vitamin C inhibits tyrosinase and is therefore effective in lightening pigmentation and sunspots. It aids with moisturizing the skin and is essential for collagen synthesis. It therefore improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
